Davis California

Founded in 1868, the city was originally named Davisville for Jerome C. Davis, a prominent local farmer. The Davisville post office shortened the town name in 1907 and the change was official when the city incorporated in March 1917. The town has close ties to the local university, the University to California at Davis.

From its beginnings, Davis has been an agricultural community, now Davis is recognized internationally for its contributions to life sciences, agriculture, veterinary medicine, biotechnology, medical technology and engineering.

Davis is located 15 miles by freeway west of Sacramento, There is also a Davis, West Virginia.

Davis is part of the Yolo, California metro area.
