Located 45 minutes southeast of San Francisco near scenic Mount Diablo in Danville, the Blackhawk Museum is the world s foremost automotive museum that presents the car as a work of art. The Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and is currently exhibiting three significant Smithsonian cars: 1948 Tucker Model 48 Torpedo 4-Door Sedan (number 39 of 51 built), c. 1880 Long Steam Tricycle (oldest self-propelled car in the Smithsonian s collection) and a 1893 1894 Duryea (America s first manufactured gasoline-powered car).
This 100,000-square-foot multi-level glass-and-granite architectural masterpiece showcases an ever-changing exhibition of over 100 of the world s greatest autos dating from the 1890s.
An Automobile Research Library is available for research and study with new materials arriving on a regular basis.
