Angels Camp California

Angels Camp is located just northeast of Modesto between Jackson and Sonora along Highway 49 near New Mellones Lake and Tulloch Reservoir.

It was named after Henry Angel, who discovered gold here in 1848. It was the setting for Mark Twain's "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" and Bret Harte's "Brown of Calaveras".
