Alhambra is sometimes referred to as the "Gateway to the San Gabriel Valley." The City received its name from a book entitled The Alhambra by Washington Irving, published in 1832. The city was incorporated in 1903.
Visitors and residents can take advantage of the numerous boutiques and restaurants that are located downtown, providing unique shopping opportunities as well as fine cuisine. There are also numerous recreational and sporting activities in the area.
This city in eastern Greater Los Angeles borders the city of Los Angeles on the west, Monterey Park on the south, San Gabriel on the east and South Pasadena on the north. Interstate 10 crosses the southern part of Alhambra.
Alhambra is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach, California metro area.
