The Chumash Indians, who were able to survive here because of the natural springs and streams in the Santa Monica Mountains, first inhabited Agoura. The City is the gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Agoura Hills is located north of Greater Los Angeles on Highway 101, and just south of Westlake Village. Agoura Hills is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach, California metro area.
It was named after Pierre Agoure, a rancher.
